Arthroscopy is an advanced surgical procedure that uses that uses cameras to look inside the joint and repair damaged tissue using small instruments, via small cuts.
This is a question which plagues most patients. Arthroscopy being a more advanced surgery, often is overall costlier than other orthopedic surgeries. The overall cost of the surgery depends upon the nature and number of injuries and the quality of implants used. Shoulder surgeries (1L-3L) are often costlier than most knee surgeries. A simple ACL surgery will be less expensive (70k-1.5L) than ACL with meniscus surgery (90K-2L). You will be informed upfront about the net cost after evaluation of your MRI and physical examination.

Recovery after any surgery depends upon what procedure you underwent. The conditions of your muscles and preoperative strength etc. To get a better idea look at various rehab protocols that we have put up on this site.
Arthroscopic surgeries have been instrumental in providing good function and preserving the joint for injuries which were earlier thought to be untreatable. It’s a rapidly growing field both in terms of techniques and technology. Arthroscopic surgeries have been very successful in restoring joint and function in hip, knee and shoulder. Their utility is being explored in elbow and ankle joint with decent success rates, but they are yet to replicate the success rates of knee and shoulder arthroscopy.
Arthroscopic procedure carries risks similar to any other orthopedic procedure. But the risk are rare happenings and will depend upon what structures are being operated upon. Look under different surgeries for the risk associated with them.
No not all arthroscopic procedures are minor procedures, in fact most arthroscopy can be quite an extensive surgery. Nevertheless, it is done via small cuts, and causes less morbidity, less blood loss, less post operative pain, less damage to surrounding structure than conventional open surgeries.
